I’ve been working a while on a site to help local businesses advertise. It’s called Chucktown Deals, and it’s a Charleston, SC deals site. Business owners and reps can log in and manage their page. Everything is organized by category, and the entire idea is for businesses to announce their deals—on the site and automatically to our Twitter page. For instance, Moe’s might announce their 1/2 price burger night on Tuesday. It’s a great deal for advertising, and the idea is to get a wide selection of local business on the site.
It was supposed to be an ultra-simple idea with one single focus: deals. It might not be the easiest thing to explain, especially trying to explain to people who don’t really know what Twitter is that you can post directly from Chucktown Deals to our Twitter account. But the site adheres to the K-I-S-S philosophy (keep it simple, stupid).
So Chucktown Deals is already two days old. And there are two businesses other than my own participating so far: Stylee PR and Marketing and City Lights Coffee.
Obviously, it’s not easy to start an advertising-based business—especially when advertising is the main content of the website. But I think Chucktown Deals is a winner and will slowly become one of the great web resources for locals and visitors.
For locals, the site will be a bit of a brand and will rely more on social media and word of mouth to spread. Meanwhile, the site is built on very well-structured HTML and is SEO optimized for Google, where I expect most of the visitors to find the site.
Once we get a little revenue going, I’m going to place some Chucktown Deals ads in various media from pay-per-click ads on Google to some travel publications and see what works.
For now, the site is a newborn, and I hope you’ll check it out. Go to http://www.chucktowndeals.com or check out the category pages for Charleston hotels, Charleston restaurants, Charleston services or go to the Chucktown Deals home page for a complete category listing.
